Tri-ing to riase funds for GUCH

On Sunday 12th November, GUCH patient Beth Greenaway will attempt to finish the Miami Man 1/2 Iron distance triathlon in Florida. The race consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile (1/2 marathon) run, completed consecutively in the fastest time possible. Beth is a veteran of many triathlons and endurance events, although this will be her first big competition since her valve replacement at the Bristol Royal Infirmary last year. She has had a 'challenging' year of training, with many ups and downs, but is still hopeful that she can complete the race in less than 6 1/2 hours.

Beth works as a personal fitness trainer near Plymouth, and in spite of some limitations leads a very active lifestyle. She is a firm believer that her fitness and attitude enable her to maintain the quality of life that she does. Her ultimate ambition is to be fit enough to compete at the full Ironman race (double the above distances) in Sherborne, Dorset next year. Beth is extremely fortunate to be a sponsored athlete, and races for the TRI UK team at the world's biggest triathlon store in Yeovil, Somerset.

Beth has nothing but praise for the GUCH organization and the wonderful support which she has received from its members over the years. Where as it is the doctors who have kept her alive physically, it is her fellow GUCH patients who give her the inspiration to fight and be the best she can be.

Beth is keen to give something back to the Association, and is hoping to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship. If you are interested in doing so, then please contact Beth via her web site at www.merlinfitness.com, or make a donation via the GUCH Head Office at 01473 252007.
