CHD Awareness Day 14th February 2009
14 February 2009

Valentine's is coming, and while you're planning your roses, chocolates and nights out remember that the day of hearts is also the day of hearts for another reason. It is Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Day.

This walk will be especially important for those of us who knew Laura Alexander, as the plan is that if you want to collect sponsorship for this walk then please give it to GUCH PA under the heading of "Ra's Fund" a fund set up in Laura's memory to help GUCHs attend events that they otherwise couldn't attend.

This year we'll be going to Chester, a city Laura loved and lived near, and as normal we'll have 2 walks; a short walk of about a mile that will be fully accessible and a longer (3 miles) that will go up some stairs and steeper slopes.

So where will we be going in Chester? The plan is that both walks will take in the world-famous walls, the Roman Amphitheatre and views over the River Dee. There'll be plenty of opportunities for photo stops, tea stops and, for those interested in such things, plenty of shops. The history buffs will want to take in the sights from Roman through medieval, see the scars left by the civil war to the grandeur of the Victorian era.

Both walks will finish in the warm with a lunch and a chance for everyone to socialise. As ever various volunteers who do a lot of walking will be supporting the walk by acting as walk leaders and local guides.

If you're interested in coming, and want more information please contact the organising team by email guchwc-chester2009@yahoo.co.uk, or phone the GUCH Office who will pass on your details.

As happened last year, to help raise awareness even more for GUCHs and GUCH PA, some of our trusty volunteers are going to be visiting GUCH clinics during the week leading up to February 14. They will hopefully be easy to spot as, Health and Safety allowing, they will be surrounded by GUCH Posters, leaflets, possibly the odd balloon or two and they will be accosting strangers and handing out postcards promoting GUCH. We are hoping these events will be on the days the actual clinics are being held. If you see them please give them your support!

In advance - many thanks to those of you who have offered to do this.
