CHD Awareness Day Walk - Oxford, 16 February 2008
16 February 2008

Come and see the dreaming spires, where Morse drove his Jag, ancient buildings and modern shops!

As part of the international events celebrating Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Day, GUCH PA will be organising events around the U.K; some will be based in GUCH centres and clinics and this year the 'Awareness Day Walk' will be held in Oxford and will be one where all GUCHs can come and share their experiences.

Last year's very successful walk was held in Birmingham, and ended with a buffet lunch and the opportunity to enjoy each other's company knowing that we had spread the word about congenital heart disease and about GUCHs in particular.

This year we'll be going to Oxford and the walk is for all GUCHs, relatives, carers and friends, whatever your ability! There will be two walks, both starting at 10am from Oxford City Centre. The shorter walk is approximately 3/4 of a mile taking in some of the main sites, including the Bridge of Sighs and the Carfax Tower and is wheelchair and buggy friendly. The longer route is approximately three miles and will also include a stroll along the canal and Jericho. If you need a 'breather' there are seats and benches along both routes.

The idea isn't to race around the routes in the shortest time, but to use them to raise awareness. If anyone feels too cold or tired to walk on the day we'll have a GUCH HQ set up so people can relax in the warm.

After the walks, we will all meet for lunch in the GUCH HQ for the day. After an excellent experience last year of the Quaker's venue in Birmingham, we shall be taking over a part of Oxford's Quaker centre, just a stone's throw from the start of the walks. So if you're interested in joining us please email your contact details to: GUCH_pa-CHDAD2008@yahoo.co.uk, or contact GUCH Head Office on 01473 252007 and they will pass your details on.
