Role Description Online Moderator

Responsible to: Volunteer Development Manager

Main purpose: To monitor and oversee scheduled online discussions

Key Responsibilities:

• To guide the discussion
• Make newcomers feel welcome
• Encourage users to maintain chat room etiquette and adhere to our terms and conditions
• Advise GUCH PA staff if online discussion rules are broken
• Stimulate discussion.
• To give reasonable notice of non-availability.
• Give information about our services & how to access them.
• Keep the discussion focussed
• Try to ensure that everyone is given the space to be heard and to explore their issues.
• Keep appropriate records of activities

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Work within GUCH PA's policies and procedures
• Commitment to confidentiality
• Respect others' opinions and views
• Attend ongoing training
• To work to the high standards set by GUCH PA
• Willing to undergo a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check

Desirable:

• Experience using chat rooms
• Friendly and outgoing
• Fast typing speed
• Sense of humour

Based at: Home, with Broadband

Commitment: Minimum 2.5 hours per month
